Interactive Tutorial 17 error?

Post by Ian R »

In this post I am referring to this part of this tutorial:

Interactive tute #17 at control screen 7 of 12.

This is the instruction about holding (down) the control key when left clicking a ship/ships to set a precise path of movement through a series of sea areas. Applying the old adage "always the farmer, never the dog", perhaps the problem I am having with this has to do with when to hold and when to release the control key.

The problem is I cannot get this work as depicted, even when following the instructions precisely IMHO. Can someone give some more detail on exactly when you depress, and later release, the control key?

Herewith the problem, tut instruction in italics:

• MM Bristol (England); EX NRD; RC

All fine

• LC CA Manchester; LC CL Achilles

Also fine

• HOLD {Ctrl}; LC Bay of Biscay (Global Map)

Yes fine

• RD Drop Off/Load Units Form; LC Select None; OK

That all works until ....

I now get the choose sea box or load unit screen and can not complete the tutorial - hitting cancel sends you back to Bristol.

I have tried this using different variations of holding and releasing the control key, to no avail.

• HOLD {Ctrl}; LC Cape St. Vincent (Global Map); EX Drop Off/Load

Hold-LC cpe ST Vincent (Global Map) does not exit the above mentioned screen.

• LC Select All; OK; CK Section 4; OK; ...

I never get to this bit.

I think tutorial is teaching how to send ships to seas. I'm little confused about instructions, but let's see if I get this right.

At this stage you need to select to which sea box you place your ships. Choose box 4 (see red box in picture). After that you can click OK button. At this stage you can also embark and disembark land unit to/from ships.

If you watch the corresponding video tutorial, it is about setting a specific path of sea areas from A -> B -> C. So you can avoid something in area D.

The control left click works, intuitively, in a similar way to the way it does setting a specific path for land units. Therefore I have kept a finger on the control key, although I have tried it other ways without success.

I must be doing something wrong, because the cruisers stop movement in Bay of Biscay, and won't keep going to Cape St Vincent. The screen you are showing in your picture is the one that pops up after this step:

• RD Drop Off/Load Units Form; LC Select None; OK

The step that it will not advance to is this one-

• HOLD {Ctrl}; LC Cape St. Vincent (Global Map); EX Drop Off/Load

Yeah, I have just tested this with version 3.1.0.1 and ran through this tutorial, and I see your point!

When you left click a Sea Area with a bunch of ships in hand, it brings up the Drop Off/Load Units form. Normally, you would probably select some units to drop off in the selected Sea Area, when you click close on the Drop Off/Load Unit form you will be presented with the Choose Sea Section Box form so you can select a valid section box for the dropped off units. When you close this form, the remaining units, stay in hand to continue there move.

Whats happening wrong is when you right click a Sea Area which brings up the Drop Off/Load Units form and select the "Select None" button, and click Ok. It's still bringing up the Choose Sea Section Box form, which is incorrect as no units have been selected to be dropped off. The Choose Sea Section Box form contains ALL units in hand, so you cant simply close this form and continue moving, it will place all units in the selected Sea Area and end the sea move.

BTW, This is also happening in Game mode as well, and not just the tutorial in question.

Perhaps something changed in a patch that had a flow-on effect to this form of movement instruction.

Just ran into this as well. Any update?
It seems defining a specific route for naval units is broken.

I am also a new player and think I had the same problem. Solved it with this...

• RD Drop Off/Load Units Form; LC Select None; OK
All worked ok. But I couldn't complete the following because a new form came up called 'choose sea section'....
• HOLD {Ctrl}; LC Cape St. Vincent (Global Map); EX Drop Off/Load
Can't do that because of this 'Choose Sea Section' form in Bay of Biscay. The game won't allow me to select Cape St V on either the global or main map. If I close or cancel the 'Choose sea section' form my naval units end up back where they started from in Bristol.

Got round this by closing the annoyingly unexpected 'Choose sea section' form, selecting the units in Bristol again and simply moving the cursor to St Vincent directly. That worked.

MWIF IT's are very detailed and I think this is the first time I've come across a real error. It's no big deal though. Finished the rest of the tutorial without any issues.
