3.1.0.1 Territorial Land Movement

Post by BrianJH »

The rule says that for movement purposes, territorial units treat mountain, forest, and jungle hexes as clear in their home country. So, can anyone explain why the British Somalian territorial unit can't move all the way to Berbera?

Perhaps because British Somaliland isn’t a country. It’s a governed area or a subcountry can’t remember which.

I’m not saying thats a good reason but perhaps the game is incorrectly handling this technicality

No, I think it's more to do with the fact that the unit in question is crossing the border back into its home country and the program is not checking for that and applying the movement benefits.

No. Markb50k is right. British Somaliland is a territory and not a home country.

RAW:

For movement purposes, territorial units treat mountain, forest and
jungle terrain in their home country as clear. They pay normal
movement costs outside their home country.

However:
Clarification: The home country of a territorial unit that belongs to a territory is the territory itself.
So a for the purposes of movement, it should not matter whether a TERR belongs to a territory, a minor country, or a major country.

Seems the most reasonable (logically consistent/realistic) interpretation to me...

The rule doesn't specifically mention desert mountain hexes, so I'd guess they still cost 2MP for a TERR.

That can't be it, because if the first (non-desert) mountain hex cost only one, the TERR could reach Berbera no matter how much Berbera cost, at the cost of flipping itself.

On reflection, this post might have been misconstrued as being somewhat aggressive. This was not my intent, so I am withdrawing it.
