Is tech still a bit too fast?

Warplan is a World War 2 simulation engine. It is a balance of realism and playability incorporating the best from 50 years of World War 2 board wargaming.

Is tech still a bit too fast?

Post by MagicMissile »

Just wondering what people think? I know for sure that my opponent in one of my games has a 1943 upgraded armoured corps in october 1941.In one of my other games I can start building 1942 assault in september 1940 isn´t it a bit early? I think so but others might think differently?

No you are right. It's still possible to get a year ahead pretty quickly.

I don't think it's too fast and right now it's quite right tech wise.

I am not sure how you can be sure of '43 in '41 - but I assume that's Germany Breakthrough armour (Which starts a year ahead, so '40 start of the game).

Plus it means that the investment in that sector was maximized.

The 'tech' problem is that one can just focus on pratically 4-5 tech branches and that's it. BUT that works with how tech are slow (and not quick) now. Because if players do not max out in techs, they'll never see the '45 technologies either.

But ultimately technologies should be seen not year-tied but tier-tied.

WarPlan is supposedly inspired by World in Flames. Remember the Great Fighter Race of WiF, when players would advance-build their fighter pools so 1944 fighters were flying in 1943?

Not in a consistent way, but if you focus on certain areas to the max and get lucky rolls you can really power ahead. I haven't seen it happen across the board, though. You might get one or two such techs that streamroll.

I kind of like this. Mixes things up.

I personally think current tech speed is pretty spot on now. Havent seen any strangeness with its research speed at all.

I am not far off having 43 fighters in 41 as the RAF. So yeah if that's the intent all is good.
