Questions from a long-absent EDBTR Gamer

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Questions from a long-absent EDBTR Gamer

Post by AFIntel »

Hello!

Now that the 1.05 patch was released (and THANK YOU for that!), I'm jumping back into EDBTR after 5+ years of being away. I played the precursor to EDBTR (USAAF from SSI, on Commodore 64 in the 1980's), and purchased EDBTR when it was initially released.

In playing some short scenarios today to warm up, I had three questions that I couldn't find the answer to. I think a couple them were answered on this forum long ago, but I can seem to locate them (old posts purged, maybe?).

1) In bombing an airfield, I'll get notifications about AAA being destroyed, but what to the asterisks mean? Ex. 40mm Bofors Gun AA destroyed***. The number of asterisks varies. I remember this being answered many years ago, but can't locate it.

2) Radars: I remember the white range rings are Chain Home High (high altitude) and red are Chain Home Low (low altitude). I seem to remember that neither could detect targets below 500 feet. Does anyone remember what the minimum altitude is for High? This is another question that I remember being answered loooooonnngg ago, but was lost.

3) Finally, in ED, some Primary Airfields have asterisks nest to their name. I don't recall that with the original edition of EDBTR. What do they mean?

I appreciate the help, y'all. Have a great weekend and happy gaming!

Hi.
I remember the asterisks simply related to explosion size, nothing more.
Min altitude I think was either 2500" or 3000"
No clue on number 3 I'm afraid.

Enjoy gaming again, the updates and the work done really make the game come alive again.

I thought the asterisks counted the number of occurances that the weapon was destroyed, up to 5 and then it restarted.

The red circles indicate the distance (at a minimum altitude of 500 feet) that CHL radar can detect raids; the white circles indicate the distance (at a minimum altitude of 5,000 feet) that CH radar can detect raids.

Airfields with asterisks in ED are Coastal and Bomber command airfields.
