AI question

Warplan is a World War 2 simulation engine. It is a balance of realism and playability incorporating the best from 50 years of World War 2 board wargaming.

AI question

Post by Edorf »

I’ve been thinking about buying WarPlan and my intention is to play against the AI only. Since I already have SC WiE I’m a bit curious about how challenging the WP ai is in comparison?

Similar fuzzy logic. Both have scripted situations although the scripting system is different.

Really depends on the player. I have a dozen different A.I. levels to make it challenging. WarPlan A.I. has different strategies and some sneaky things. There is always fine tuning which has been happening as I go under the hood. Currently I am focused on bug control and writing the Pacific WarPlan.

Thanks for your reply, Alvaro.

I’ve been been reading some older posts in this forum and it seems like the ai in WarPlan is quite challenging for the non-expert (like myself...)
I also suppose playing mostly historical and by using some house rules will help the ai a bit.

Since you mention Pacific WarPlan, will that one be released as a dlc or a separate game?

It will be a separate game since the Pacific will have different situations.

For example the # in a fleet had doubled.
Single capital ships
Naval and air specializations.
Night missions will be more important.

Few more other features added.

I have both and have played more WiE than WP. So far, I'm finding the AI in WP to be a little static. Too soon to make a full evaluation but somehow the game isn't as engrossing as WiE.

I started my first test game on WP as Axis, Veteran and Exellent supply. Attacked Poland but the ai did nothing but retreating until they surrendered.
Afterwords I did an early 40 attack on France and made some deliberate gaps on my border. Next turns, nothing from the French. Very static I must say.
I have to note that the scenario description tells that the 39 scenario is best played as human Allies vs Axis ai. Nevertheless the Allies ai seems a bit too timid. I may have to buff up the difficulty a few steps to see if that makes the ai more aggressive.
