Upgrade cycle causing front-abandonment?

Post by FOARP »

Am in late 1915 and the Germans seem to be withdrawing on the Western front having held the line solidly before. They haven’t suffered any great losses and no large new fronts have opened. However they do seem to be upgrading to infantry tech 1, and this does seem to cause the AI to withdraw from large parts of the front to upgrade their troops.

My suggested fix is to make it possible to upgrade whilst in contact. In a WW2 game it makes sense that you’d have to withdraw a tank division to refit it but in an infantry-centric game the equipment is easily issued at the front.

Thanks for the report and off hand I don't believe the units are specifically pulling back to upgrade, likely related to another issue that I'll look into, but fair point on possibly being able to upgrade for WWI games when adjacent other units and something Bill and I would need to discuss. Would likely help the AI too.

There is no question that this would radically change the flow of the game...but it could perhaps be made harder to do so to compensate.
Maybe require that for units adjacent to enemy units to be able to upgrade, that they can only do this after reaching a certain level of entrenchment...
