How to Attack and Advance?

Post by MarechalJoffre »

After playing a few offensive scenarios, I can conclude that attacking is a nasty business. Especially covered areas like wooded and urban terrain are the ones I'm having the most trouble with.

So far my strategy has been to deploy my mech infantry just before entering the terrain with a double echelon, tight spaced formation. Then I give "scout" order so that they advance cautiously while tanks provide covering fire from behind, yet still my BTRs are getting picked up out of nowhere. It is no uncommon sight that I lose all my BTRs and several of my infantry squads while spotting at most a handful of enemy infantry units. Tanks are surely to be dead if I drive them forward as well.

So, in short, how do I even attack? What are some useful tips for the attacking player? What should I be doing?

I hear ya, had some trouble myself. Just got my butt kicked in "who will stop the rain" . I've come to the conclusion if you don't have a lot of support help, arty and air, your in for a really rough go, especially in difficult terrain. I mean has anyone beaten 'who'll stop the rain" , its recon by death in a lot of scenario's and unlike the ones made with the AI attacking you don't have overwhelming force. I mean all you can do is find, suppress, eliminate or bypass, try or get fire superiority and use the terrain to your advantage but when your facing defensive in depth, in difficult terrain without support....good luck[:)] . I'm not complaining as i enjoy that puzzle in most scenarios.

Many attack scenarios have changed their balance quite a bit after tweaks to the engine and the database.

I'd need to see someone beat "Who'll stop the rain" to believe it. I'm working on trying plan C

I was afraid "Who will stop the rain" is too easy after the re-balance.

If its easy then i really suck[:D] on my third try. With no support units, by the time i make it to the last line of defense by the river not much firepower left.
