Renaming Ships

Post by Coach Zuck »

Just returning to WitP & forum. Seeing some posts about renaming ships.
How is that done?
Can both the Allies & Japanese do that?
More curious than anything else.

Thanks

Some of the resurrected USN carriers (Essex class Yorktown, Lexington) can be renamed, if the originals are still alive.

Only cases I know of.

You could probably use the editor before the game starts.

Ships that were named after ships historically sunk can be renamed - carriers, cruisers and DDs. Their names appear in yellow text in the ships avail screen, as long as they are still in the reinforcement que, you can rename them. Once they arrive on the map, you can no longer rename them.

There are some Essex ships which don't normally appear in the game. I always pick "Reprisal" as it's a badass name.

Reprisal is good, I also go for old sailing ship names: Constellation, Congress, Alliance

Cruisers are easy, you can just pick cities that don't have one if you want to follow convention

Well if you like USS Constitution, you could also use USS Retribution to sort of combine the former with the "Reprisal" idea.

Using the editor, and enabling rename ships, then any ship in either side that ends with "II" is able to be renamed in game up until it launches in game. In stock scenarios, only the allies have any ship names with II in them. but in user scenarios, you can get them on either side.

CV-35 would have carried the name Reprisal had she been completed. Unfortunately, she was scrapped.

CV-46 Iwo Jima was also never completed. I tend to take that name, too.
