full screen?

Post by CapAndGown »

After a 10 year hiatus, I finally decided to dip my toes back into this game. I got a brand new game since I have no clue what my old serial number might have been. My first problem is that the game is not showing full screen. It shows a square box in the center with black boxes on either side. (i.e. the aspect ratio is messed up.) Also, when I exit the game my web browser window has been resized. So, how do I fix this? I assume there are some flags I have to add to the short cut?

The particular switch you want to add in the target line for full screen is -f . You can add a d to that for daily autosaves (-fd).

But if you have a 1920/1080 screen (or bigger), you might want to try -pxf1872-pyf1053 .

That will give you a fixed dimensions large window that is almost full screen.

Some forumites don't like the window option, some prefer it for the flexibility. As I recently added a second screen, I can move the window over there while I attend to other things so that flexibility suits.

This is what I'm using on a big screen Win 10.
"C:\Matrix Games\WITP AE - PBM #1\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -altFont -cpu4 -deepColor -dd_sw -archive -wd -pxf2656 -pyf1654
It does go full screen but makes it so big it's good enough.

Welcome back! [:)]

Thanks for the help. I went with a windowed version -px1280 -py800. That seems to work. I also found that some combination of -SingleCpuOrders -altfont - deepColor seems to speed up the scrolling.

Another question: I have vers 1.811.26a July 10 2016 Is that the latest?

I've got "1.8.11.26b". That should be the latest "Beta" (not really a Beta, as road tested as they get).

Thank you.

Now I need to figure out how to get the pdf manual onto my Kindle. I am guessing I can use a USB connection.

jmscho beat me to it [:)]

Also don't worry about the fact that the patch is marked v1125 in some respects. It is v1126b; IIRC it will set you up with a new beta sub-directory, and a new desktop shortcut that runs the beta exe instead of the 'standard' one.

Although some/many things in the manual are correct, it is vague and opaque in places. You are probably better off doing a search of this forum to get detailed answers. The search function works well enough if you use a reasonably short search term, and tell it to search all topics, not just the last 12 months.

Well, I figured out how to get the manual on my Kindle. Yay! I will be reading that for a bit, then I will dive into the search function.

How does the AI do? Better to have an AI allies or AI Japan? I never really played against the AI before, only PBEM.

You need to download Andy's improved AI modules.

I haven't bookmarked that topic but someone will probably point you there. (Kull?)

Also, there is the enhanced Japan scenario, along with three tiers of ironman scenarios where Japan gets progressively more stuff and a better economy.

I would suggest using at least the enhanced Japan scenario if you are playing the Allies.

Wow, C&G is back!

That's a name and presence as prominent as as Large Slow Target, Fabertong, Treespider, Raver_Dave, PaxMondo, Admiral_Dadman, The Elf and a bunch of others, some here some gone.

for stock scenarios, the AI is better as allies than as IJ. The AI always struggles with units, lack of units essentially negates it, so as IJ the AI will falter badly as '42 winds down. Whereas the AI as the allies continues to improve the entire game as it gains more and more units. Play against the AI only on VH which about balanced odds.

If you go with 'enhanced' scenarios, aka Ironman, then the AI works well either side. I would say the IJ AI in ironman is a bit better as Andy spent more time with it (most AI players play allies, not IJ).

good luck!!!
