Carrier Trained

Post by George Patton »

How long does it takes for an air group to become Carrier Trained since it's embarked on a carrier?

Thanks for the info. So if the carrier return to port I won't loose the training?
And in off map hexes?

If the carrier goes off map, the air unit still counts that time toward becoming "carrier trained".

In the situation btd64 mentioned where the air unit is put ashore, I think it retains its count toward the 90 days so that if it is embarked again it does not start at 0. Not positive on that point, but IIRC, someone put their marine air unit ashore to speed up repairs of plane fatigue while the carrier was repairing and then re-embarked the marine air unit without penalty. The only time lost was the time while it was off the carrier.

The training carrier doesn't even have to be at sea for carrier training to accumulate.

The Long Island comes in fairly early but with no air wing at all. I took a Marine DB squadron and put it on the Long Island for three months in San Diego and Viola! 90 days later my DB squadron is carrier trained.

Makes the Long Island a good ASW asset. Pair it with 8 converted 4 pipers (ASW=8) and just cruise up and down the eastern coast of Australia and they kill I-boats like goats. What sub skipper can resist a carrier?

Have the Long Island find the subs from at least 2 hexes away. Then dedicated and highly trained ships with good skippers and ASW platforms in an ASW TF go for the kill. I would not allow any aircraft carrier get with torpedo range if I can avoid doing so.

I put a fighter squadron on the Long Island and use to provide a token CAP over my Replenishment Carrier Division.

That way I don't have to sacrifice a real combat carrier for that job.
