Playing only with one country

Does anyone play against the AI with just one country, and let other major allies to an allied AI?

I discovered that possibility last week and found it quite interesting.

For instance, playing solely with Germany, letting the computer handle Japan and Italy.

Or solely with the Soviet Union.

It gives a different perspective, the commands aren’t integrated, you need to be concerned about what your allies/partners are doing.

In the Allied side is quite curious, you begin to be much more careful giving MPPs to the other countries that you can’t manage. And, if you are winning, you can do the race, who reaches Berlin first? The Soviets, or the Western allies?

I also found the game more challenging this way.

I have so far only ever played with Japan. I am now quite good at conquering China, invading the USSR (to draw forces away from the Germans, but it doesn’t seem to make much difference) & holding off the allies for a tactical victory.

Yep, playing one or limited countries is one of the best part of this game, where the AI not works perfectly with you, yet you must do some actions together.

Currently playing a really late German run (already got the option for winning, but went for total conquest, slowly finishing the US and China), where the US even almost managed a japan knockout (cleared most of the japan fleet, took some islands and landed in japan proper with a sizeable force, but at that time the SU and UK already surrendered, and could help out the Japanese to save them, and also the US landing was on its way, so they cannot really concentrate on the islands.

In an other one (Soviet Union on veteran difficulty), having a hard time keeping the Germans out of the Three big cities, maybe will turn the tides soon, but the UK managed to fail in multiple landings against Italy, feeding Italy with morale, while China almost finished by Japan, so it will be a hard one, unless the current gathering LVs finally do something in france.
