Private Assets and Food production question

It seems my troops are starving, they are on the main logistic network which is all good, green, no bottle neck and my mil units are out of food. I have two dome farms in operation in the main city which is part is a private asset. Is this the reason my troops are starving because food being produced is not going to them because its a private asset? I do not quite understand the logic of that, because having military units would give security to the city and towns. I have no idea if this affects workers too? if they are starving too where do i learn about that?

Also i cannot build any more in the city because the buildings that can produce food have already been built there. On the construct screen it shows 3 facilities that produce 200 food each per turn so in theory that should be 600 food? Yet in my incoming resources on the items tab shows for food +188 and 33 out 132 in stock. How am i suppose to know which resource figures are from private assets that i cannot use and not?

There is an option to nationalize the food facilities, but in one video guide i watched it was said nationalizing isn't a good idea, cant remember if that was in general or for specific types of assets.

Anyway I just want to know if Private assets like farming facilities produces food for the population only or market and my military units and workers do not get any of it?

Whilst you do get a small amount of food from Privately owned farms, it's not a lot, so you need to build your own farms as the food isn't shared from the Private back to the Public (ie. your troops and workers).

You can build a farm on any hex in your zone, so it's usual to put one right next to your City hex itself.

Note that it can work the other way: ie. if you've got the Zone Governor set to provide Emergency Food, if the private sector isn't producing enough food (maybe because you bought out the Dome Farm!) then you'll feed the populace from your own stocks. This isn't recommended, I personally think you're better off letting them deal with their own food supply and building your own Dome farm outside the city. There may be some extreme circumstances where this isn't possible (I struggle to see what actually, but maybe if you're city is COMPLETELY surrounded? in which case, you're probably about to lose anyway).

You can buy food via trade. Or build your own food domes. But it is wise to let the private sector its own food production.

I can think of another case where it looks like you've got food but your people are starving: if you're overloading your logistics so badly that the SHQ cannot get food out to all your troops, you'll see them starving whilst your food stockpile is in the green. Always make sure your logistics routes are adequate, if in doubt, BUILD MORE TRUCK STATIONS.

Thanks for your replies that confirms my suspicions.

So that left panel of resources is my resources and not also inclusive of private sector? i would assume otherwise it would be misleading.

And the Items tab (which i think would be better called Production) as show more food being produced, are these resource figures here from the private sector?

The resources in the left bar are entirely your public resources used by yourself for your own building projects.

All the resources used by the Private sector are displayed in the left-most panel on the bottom bar when you click on the Population button in the centre of the bottom panel. You'll see how much Private Food they have (and more).
