Teleporting Task Force

Post by joliverlay »

PBM...Scenario 19....Allied.....Mid July 1942

I sent a SC, DD, AP, AK taskforce to Winipuko (spelling?) to unload troops/supplies. I'm short of DDs to escort my capital ships so I split 5 DDs from this taskforce and created a new task force. I then ordered this DD TF to move to Numoea to join newly arriving capital ships.

When I got the save game file back from my opponent he proudly announced he had trounced the task force that sailed to within 4-5 hexes of Rabul. Since I had not sent any task force to Rabul I was anxious to see the combat replay.

It showed my 5DDs getting plastered by airstrikes from Rabul.

The save game showed the remannts of the task force. The showed "destination Winipuko" home base "Winipuko". How could they move form Winipuko to Rabul in one turn???

This is not the same player with which I reported a problem with combat replays. Has anyone else seen this?? I can live with losing 5 DDs, but what if it had been a CV task force.

Please let me know if I'm the only one to see this. I play 3 PBMs and 1+ turn on each per day so I make a lot of moves. This beats anyting Ive ever seen.

I had a very similar situation where a mine sweeper located at Rabaul got plastered during an attack down at Brisbane. The only problem was the mine sweeper was STILL AT Rabaul.

I wrote it off to a corrupt game and loaded things back from a previous save and it didn't happen again.

Curious how much memory you have and the operating system running. I'm Windows 2000 & 512 Megs here.

Disappearing Task Force

Post by joliverlay »

My task for actually moved. It was not just attacked at Rabul, it was present there when the next turn started.

I run Win 98 SE (I think, I'll look when I get home.) I'm using an Athalon 1700 Chip with 1 GHz of DDR ram.
