1.03 recon doesn't reveal adjacent zones

I have 5+ zone recon (through spies mostly) on almost every zone that isn't mine in my game, but I don't know about the existence of any other zones and can't play stratagems on them. The rulebook (pg.342) says I should know they exist and be able to play stratagems on them at recon 5.

I'd upload my save but the forum won't let me.

There are some stratagem cards (minor) that give a "recon error" message when actually you can't play them because there is no formal regime government in the zone.

Also, I believe spies must be cycled into a zone. I notice that after an initial push of recon level and detail, the zone begins to become opaque again as time passes.

Not answers, but perhaps something to consider as you search.

I'm pretty sure that's not the issue. This zone has 69 recon but I can't see the zone(s) next to it. Just "unknown". Can't play cards on them either (I've checked the targets in the stratagem tab).

I filed a report about this issue earlier. Recently, I found out that spies will reveal other undiscovered zones within the same regime, but never adjacent undiscovered zones outside of that regime's borders.

Thanks for reporting. This is indeed not working as described in the manual.

I gave it some thought and the manual actually has the more interesting rule.

Next Open Beta patch (aiming for monday) will have fixed this and will give you minimal recon on the Zones beyond.

This will allow a Covert Ops strategy where even if your Units stay in 1 Zone you could explore the whole Planet through spies
