Medium Engine added 300 weight to design

Post by LuciusSulla »

I used a High Speed Machine Gun + 50mm Steel Plating + Medium Desiel Engine to design an APC.

In total the weight should be 200(plating) + 60(engine); while the power should be 300.

However, I got a 30% movement penalty due to underpowered design.

When checking the design, I found that the engine added 300 weight to it (see attachment).

Thus the total weight after calculation amounted to 500. The 300 power is only >= 60% of weight (500*60% = 300), resulted in a 30% penalty.

I haven't checked if other engines have the same issue.

That is total weight, not the weight of the engine. You are also forgetting the weight of the MG. Either way, the engine design makes it so that the actual power your engines output is far lower.

I made teh same mistake. "Weight" is a running total, with several snapshoots after each thing that adds more.

Two factors you are forgetting as well is:
Hull weight. All vehicles have some before any parts
Weapon System weight.
Sounds like those added up to 40 in your design.

And with the engine power, the rated power is modified by the Engine Design roll, so the results can be very different from what you imagined. With a roll of 70, you got ~70% of the rated power only.

You were right on track for a "just about right" engine. Until the designers just plain messed up.[:)]
