Food and zones

Post by stephenpaget »

It seems that once I take a city and acquire the zone, I immediately have a food supply issue to my troops. There are plenty of Logistic points, indeed, the turn before taking the zone, all troops were fully supplied. I’m building more agriculture, but I don’t understand what’s happening. Is it because I suddenly have to feed the newly acquired city’s population? Is it something to do with having a 2nd zone ? Any help much appreciated, and I’m thoroughly enjoying the game, even though some of the systems are a little opaque.

How's your food stockpile? Hover over the food resource in the left-side bar - ideally you want the amount in there to be significantly higher than what it says was actually sent out. Resource shipments from the SHQ happen first, shipments to the SHQ only happen later in the turn resolution order, so it has to already have enough food in stock to cover the entire logistical demand when you end the turn. Because of this, the SHQ can have food in stock at the start of a turn because it just got delivered, and your troops can still be starving for lack of food because there wasn't enough to send earlier. If this is the problem, you can buy food from the market as a stopgap until you get more agriculture online.

Thanks for responding. Food supply was easily covered until I took the new city/zone. This is why I’m wondering if I suddenly have a lot of new mouths to feed. When I get chance today I’ll go back and look at some old saves before and after taking the new city.

Workers are fed by your SHQ. The rest of the population buys (or farms) their own food unless they're destitute, in which case they either starve, or are fed by the SHQ if Allow Emergency Food is turned on in the zone orders.
