Post by Kaakao »

Was visiting the Parola tank museum some 90km outside the finnish capital Helsinki today with DerC and took some pictures I hope you like. Lot's of different soviet models and some western too.

Here's the URL

See if you can identify the tanks in the pictures

The pics look very good. It was a great day, too bad we didn't take any photos at the artillery museum as well.
I had never seen a real MBT before, and I have to say that I was surprised how big some of these beasts were! Even the StuGs and T34s (pretty high profile compared to other tanks) looked impressive - I'd love to see a Königstiger somewhere :D

This StuG was my favourite. What you can't see in the picture is that it had some sort of ceramic(?) plates attached to the hull. We think it was to prevent magnetic mines from attaching to the tank. I'd be glad to hear anyone verify this or explain to me what it is.

Nice pictures, thank you!

One interesting site with more than 1100 pictures including many from that same museum: http://www.andreaslarka.net/

You are right about that. It is called "zimmerit" and the Finns took it off. That tank has been "rezimmerited".

Hiyas,

Yes the ceramic coating was there to prevent magnetic AT mines being attached, I'm desperately trying to remember what it is called...I'm sure I'll remember sometime soon
