Planetology

Is rolling a gravity close to earth like possible? I just spent 30 minutes rolling every planet type, best i could do on gravity was .52 , only broke the .5 barrier once the rest of the time it was under .5

Has anybody rolled close to an earth like 1.0 ? maybe mine's broke[:)]

I tried every planet type, you can re-roll a lot in 30 minutes. I started out shooting for a Medusa with close to earth like gravity, trying to get a better atmosphere than insidious, saw toxic once but that was it.

Larger planets have higher gravity. So try a huge world.

duh, thats a good point. I am playing small world, so no chance of earth like stats on a small map...bummer.
Thanks

I have generated some, very, earth-like planets with a plethora of life-forms on 'normal size', using the 'Siwa Class'.

Yeah, just tried it. Large worlds can have even more gravity than earth. I just saw one with 1.24g.

Maybe map size shouldn't be strictly tied to planet size? Seems like if you want to play a small map with earth like features with similar gravity it's not possible.

I wish there was options. I can see where people would want realism and small worlds = less gravity.
However, I also want to enjoy the game without my computer melting down and that means I am limited to small worlds. Hopefully we'll get more control over, or different options for planet generation in the future.

I like smaller maps just for the quicker contacts as well as game play length.
It would be nice to have an option to make all the planet classes relatively smaller to each other so as to be able to play on a small earth-like planet when that itch appears.

Size of the hexes is set as a game design conceit. Variability in size of the maps depending on the size of the planet is understandable as a result.

Yes I'd like a 10th planet: "Artificial Class", or whatever name. Cannot find where I posted it anymore.

Choosing that you can directly set map size, gravity, age, Toxicity levels, Mountains and Sea amount etc. etc.

Basically you can set as many parameters as possible (at the very least map size and gravity without any correlation anymore between them).

Unclassified opens the randomization of everything, right? It isn't just randomly pick one of the other 8?

Adding water worlds like Earth would allow you to have earthlike conditions with a small map. 70% of our planet is water, so it probably only has as much actual land area to fight on as a .5g world ingame. If you set it on a Pangaia megacontinent you don't even need navies

You can get earthlike planets in terms of everything besides gravity with the smallest option and I’m not sure gravity has an actual effect on the gameplay.

I don't think it does, but it effects the rest of world generation, like how thick the atmosphere is and a bunch of other stuff.

Yes, & I will add...the best way to generate a desert planet with a worm analog; ala Arrakis.
At least that is my experience.
