AI Airbase Management

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

AI Airbase Management

Post by airdefender »

I let the AI handle my airbase deployment during the game. I press the button and everything! It doesn't seem to do a very good job. For example, one year after invading Sicily, Corsica and Sardinia, it has yet to move any aircraft into those bases. Is this a problem with the program or am I just not doing something properly?

Did you press the button just once a year ago (in game terms), or have you pressed it every turn?

I don't use the AI for base management, but I'm pretty sure you need to press it every turn for it to re-optimize the base assignments.

It has been my, albeit limited, experience that the AI does a somewhat poor management of airbases.
I have switched over to doing it all on my own as the AI seems to leave many aircraft out of range or away from where they are actually needed, regardless of hitting the AI move/manage button every turn or not. Maybe its keeping them where it does due to my supply management sucking or whatever reason? Not sure? While the manual process seems confusing at first if you play with it for a bit it becomes pretty easy to figure out, and I achieved way better success in accomplishing what I wanted my airforce to do by organizing on my own.

Just my opinion, and I am no pro :) someone with way more experience may have better knowledge here..Loki??
