Militias in the SHQ

Post by Jorge_Stanbury »

From time to time, militia troops appear in the SHQ, why is that?

and it is annoying because when I click "replace troops", I see them as available troops, but in reality they can't be used to reinforce my regular army; so that is another click to see how many troops I really have in the SHQ

That would be because the militia automatically raises new militia units to reinforce losses, but still route those reinforcements through the SHQ like all reinforcements.

This is seem to be a bug, post in technical support.

Sidenote - it will be a nice to have a warning message about it (8-9 are IMHO bad options during a war past early games as you will be drown in regiments with a few remaining AP). Together with archaeology site discovery :)

They will, yes. You can safely ignore them, it all happens automatically. The only time they really become relevant is when your SHQ is attacked but, well, if that's happening you've got much bigger problems to say the least.

Since they are actually defending the SHQ's hex in that case, they are the opposite of a problem at that time.[;)]

Would also be nice if you got a notice when a militia unit was formed...AFAIK they just appear in some random city and you find them when you happen to notice them... Am I missing something?

As an aside, something I learned when being utterly destroyed--but then surviving anyway.

You can disband any unit--including GR units. The GR units go to the SHQ. When you form a new unit and indicate take troops from the SHQ, you can integrate those GR units into your normal units--if the super-type fits. [8D]

Is it possible to merge GR units? I've been saving all of mine and by now have a stack of 1 and 2 GR infantry and tanks, but would like to merge them into bigger units if possible.

Yes, put them in the same hex and use Transfer/BG--infantry units with infantry; tanks with tanks. [;)]

Or ... disband all the little units and then raise a new formation (i.e. OOB) that includes both infantry and tanks. You will have to fill out the rest of the units with your normal models in order to fill unit integrity.

Holy crap I didn't know you could mix GR troops with your "regulars"!

I've been placing them in BGs like a chump, or attaching them to already existing units - but being able to actually field proper units with them - that is awesome!

Can't believe I didn't think to try that...
