Cvs and subs

Post by Nirosi »

Hi,

If anyone can help, I have a question on CVs and subs. I tried to attack subs with CV planes and more often than not I do not find them. But when I do find them, I usualy do not attack them. It simply says " target found " (or something like that) and " +1 spotting ". The planes are in good shape, good weather and the settings are on naval strike. Is it because I neeed a certain level of detection before the " target found " becomes an actual attack instead? Which would imply that the first search can never be an attack?

Thanks in advance,

I think it also depends on your advancement level in Carrier Operations tech.

I have yet to see CV based planes do anything other than the "+1 Spotting". And, I have yet to see any effect from the "+1 Spotting", whatever it is suppose to mean.

I wonder if "Naval Air" skill has any effect on Carrier planes?

Has anyone tried maximizing "Naval Air" and building Strategic Bombers for anti sub warfare?
I don't think there is any other combination that corresponds to the long range air sub patrols that the Allies blanketed the N. Atlantic in.

In my experience you need to form one fleet with 3 CVs. For whatever reason such a fleet seems to have a better chance of spotting and attacking subs. You will still only have a successful strike once every 3 to 5 attempts, but at least that is better than 3 attempts with 3 separate fleets of 1 CV each which never attack the subs. As someone else has posted you will actually have more success if you can attack the subs in port.

Subs and ships in ports appear to use a different combat system than subs at sea. A smart player though uses these to bait CV's by giving Sub ports plenty of AA and lots of Air protection. But ships of all kinds in ports seem to be very vulnerable to air attacks of all kinds. It would be nice to know what these factors were rather than finding out by trial and error. I am pretty good at the error part.
