What settings do I need to create a very small empire to start with?

Post by Rednettle »

I've been watching Dastactics videos(up to video 14 now) and have been sort of following along by playing various game attempts. I sometimes consult with the manual as well. I'm having a very hard time keeping track of things, as well as connecting things I do know. It would help me immensely to start at almost zero. Such as one leader and one unit and one city. Then add things as the game progresses. Such as a government position. Building my first road, mine, or building a unit, etc. I'm guessing from the way the game is structured this is not exactly possible.

So what settings can I have to give me the most simplistic turn 1?

Robinson* (so there will be no other Major regimes) + small planet + City State start + Only Supreme Command Council + Tech level 3.

I recommend also to get Alien life (=enemies) and 1 Army per zone (to feel difference between army and militia).

*History class. Available in latest beta or wait until it will get into new release version :)

Better if inexperienced to get tech level 4 because of power, there is no tech at 3 gotta find it.

Simplest Settings
-City State
-Militia Only
-Tech 3
-SHQ Only

Just note that this will make you relatively weak compared to neighboring Minor factions, Free Folk, and any Alien lifeforms that may be on the planet. Switching to Tech 4 and/or Increasing initial armies to "1 per zone" will give you a stronger starting position without adding too much complexity.

Here's some basic early goals that you can aim for:
-Build a metal mine and connect it to your city
-Produce enough food and water for your needs
-Establish a safe perimeter around your capital. Don't allow any enemies within 2 hexes.
-Build your first Industry asset (this can be tricky, but it's a very important)
-Start to learn about the councils and why each one is important. Full understanding will take time, so be patient.

Good luck and Have fun!

Thank you.

I am patient. Otherwise I would've stopped trying. :P I realize it's a weak start, but it's not to win, but to learn how things work. Is it more important to build an industry asset before or after mine/food/water

Food is needed to feed your troops. The citizen provide their own or die. So usually a private food processor is jenned up by the citizenry.

Kind of a catch 22 you need metal to build most stuff so also need a metal source.

Food/Water/Metal first, then industry.

Your first industry asset requires 1500 metal to build. If you're on beginner, then you'll have a metal deposit next to your capital. Build a metal mine first to start saving up.

Food/Water usually isn't an immediate issue. Your people will build farms to feed themselves and the militia. Once you have a regular army you might need to build a farm. If your planet has rainfall or ground water, then you might never need to worry about water for the whole game.

And don't be afraid to completely ignore my advice and try things for yourself. [:)]
