Spratly Islands Build Outs

Post by SeaQueen »

Has anyone built .inst files for the Chinese airfields at Mischief, Fiery Cross, and Subi Reefs? I'm curious to see what others have built before I go building my own.

Inst files can be tricky due to the areas that are technically underwater. You can get around this by using the Lua AddUnit function to add units to an area that is known to be on land, and then moving them to their desired real location.

Something I've enjoyed about C:MO is that it seems as though with the new map overlays there's been some improvement in the map resolution which seems to allow better representations of the facilities there. Is that a fair statement?

I haven't built .inst files, but you can steal the installations I created for Fiery Cross Reef and adjust them as you see them. I did my best using Google Earth, etc. I did have the "Underwater" issue and I believe everything is now moved over the land and targetable.

Some time ago... perhaps several months if not longer, someone here posted SCS .INST, .PGW and .PNG files for all of the reefs currently being worked on by China. I checked the mods\useful info\import export and did not see them, but only gave it a cursory glance.

I have them... however the zipped file is 162MB. The .PNG files account for most of that but those overlays are nice to have. I wish I could remember who did these... they deserve credit.

I've uploaded it here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

SCS.zip

I'll keep the link active for a week or two.

Apologies of this breaks some forum rule about off line file sharing.

Yes! That's why I decided it was time to build out the islands. Sometimes, in the old version I'd also run into issues with SAMs or CDCMs being, "too deep to launch," as if they were submarines! :-)

Thankfully, the new terrain database fixes that problem, which is excellent. I've noticed a lot of the build outs people have shared included specific force laydowns (e.g. fighters, SAMs, CDCMs) and I was planning to build out something more generic, that basically includes just the airfields.

We can only speculate about what's under those radar domes, or what missiles, guns or other weapons are on those islands, or what aircraft are stationed there. Therefore a really "general" .inst file leaves those up to the scenario designer and really just focuses on the airfield and maybe some other landmarks. Who knows what will be on them in 2030? They might not even be there if a hurricane hits them. :-)

Hi everyone, I am also trying to build the facilities in this area. Initially mapped out the known facilities in Google Maps (I can't post the link just yet).
