Ideal Naval composition for an amphibious assault against a mine field?

Post by soulsilver »

Im currently playing a PBEM game as Japan, and am currently leaning towards an indian campaign. yes I have heard the arguments in favor of an Australian campaign, but i want to try something new that my opponent wont expect. I am looking at landing on the east coast of southern India and Celyon a round late febuary to early march, and it appears that the only decent port is Madras which is mined (250 mines) and protected by 6 6" CD guns. I am wondering what kind of support ships I should add to my fleet other than BB/CA for shore bombardment. Would adding minesweepers into the amphibious landing TF actually clear mines and prevent loses? any help appreciated.

Yes, embedding minesweepers into your bombardments will both sweep mines and help protect your ships from hitting said mines; moreover, your ships will help protect your minesweepers from the enemy CDs. Honestly, though, given that you'll still have the amphibious bonus, I don't see why you don't just land somewhere else and take Madras or another port by land and then bring troops in through there ASAP.

When posting your plans on the forum, it is a good idea to put "NO (name of opponent)" in the title of the thread so he doesn't join the discussion. [:'(]
