The UK Assault HQ

Post by Ancient One »

The UK 1st Army HQ begins 1939 in the UK deployment queue. When deployed, it has the Assault advancement even though you can normally only build HQ with Anti-Tank.

For me anyway the tech of HQs is irrelevant. 39 assault tech and 39 anti-tank tech are the same and I always disable repair upgrades for my HQs so they never advance beyond 39 tech (well except for the odd time where I missed disabling one of them). I save my valuable production points for the front line units. If I have to use my HQs to hold the line or my opponent is penetrating far enough into my lines to attack my HQs, than I have probably lost the game anyway.

I figure it's worth upgrading the HQ's just in case. They don't cost that much, and I would hate to lose one, and it's leader. Besides, if you can't afford to upgrade your HQ's you probably lost the game anyway. [:D]

Not really, I can live with AT tech '39 for half of the war...because for most countries only affect the HQ's.
Believe me no matter what tech level an HQ can have, if 1 or 2 panzers reach him, he will be obliterated...I know it because that happened to me during a game...several times.

Maybe an incentive to oblige player to upgrade HQ tech ?

Each tech level increase the HQ command range by one hex. And perhaps decrease the current range of HQ tech '39.
Like this, people will invest to upgrade them...
Chancellor Gorkon to Captain James T. Kirk:
You don't trust me, do you? I don't blame you. If there is to be a brave new world, our generation is going to have the hardest time living in it.

While I agree that a HQ, regardless of it's upgrade, is not likely to survive a determined attack, they'll inflict more damage, and stand a better chance if they are upgraded. HQ's, are clearly not meant to hold the line. They can hold the gap for a an attack or two if there is a breakthrough.

That being said, I have never lost one. I assume the general is KIA if the get eliminated?

The general is returned to the pool, so you can deploy it again...as long as you have enough command points.
