Odd LOS interactions

Post by Elmo_Zumwalt »

I just played through "East of Fulda", and noticed some odd interactions involving LOS/spotting. This mostly consisted of enemy units at point-blank range not being registered by my units, even though there were no obstructions.

I ultimately lost several APCs to a single BMP-2 because of this, as they took fire repeatedly without spotting the unit and returning fire.

Is this a known behavior?

It's possible for the enemy to remain undetected if the friendly units are not scanning that direction. Was the BMP-2 spotted 'globally' so you as the player could see it?

All smoke and dust are not spotted automatically, so they can be there blocking the LOS even if they're not visible to the player.

That could actually be it; the BMP was at an obtuse angle to the facing of some of the closer units, and the area had been hit by artillery repeatedly, which could have released obscurants.

Another interaction I observed was a different BMP-2 bouncing several shots to its front from two of my M1A1s; this was surprising as the BMP is thin-skinned relative to the main armament of an MBT.

Are you sure it was not a miss?
