How to change the refresh rate for WIR?

Post by Anonym »

Hello,

WIR runs atm with a refresh rate of 70Hz.
I would prefer a higher one, but don´t know how to change the refresh rate for EGA in WinXP.
Have you any tips and tricks for me or is this a normal refresh rate for such a low resolution/monitor/... ?

- WinXP
- Detonator 43.45
- GeForce3

AFAIK, most modern video cards just emulate the EGA mode by the minimum amount necessary, and do not provide any way to tweak those old video emulation modes.

How do you know that the WIR refresh rate is 70 mhz. I use a desktop machine with geForce 4, which works OK in Windows XP and got hold of an old laptop, about to be scrapped, capable of EGA graphics, when my more modern laptop would not show a stable screen with WIR.

My Monitor shows the refresh rate in his display menu.

That's only for the mode you run Windows itself in. When you run WIR and it changes the mode to its graphics mode (you can see the map) you are then running in an EGA compatible graphics mode, usually with a low refresh rate.

Remember guys, WIR is a DOS app, so when it takes over the screen when you run it, forget about 256 colors or high resolutions, or high refresh rates, you're back to the good old' days of the EGA, 640x350x16 at a low refresh rate.

No, no. :)

Perhaps I expressed myself not good enough. My Monitor has a digital Setup for setting brightness, contrast, screen width ....
and there the acctual refresh rate is shown.

Yes, it does, but none of that applies once you run a DOS app that changes the video mode. :)
