Chinese Garrison

Post by awaw »

I am relooking at my garrison numbers for the Chinese theatre, trying to squeeze more mobile troops out..... I was wondering, from the Jap perspective, does it make sense to garrison the following, or will it make sense to just let the bases rot to partisans:

1. Cheefoo (comes with a static unit, but if it dies to partisan attrition, after removing its companion, thereby dropping below garrison requirement, not a big loss?)
2. The string of bases just north of Shanghai, Tungchow & Taichow.
3. Swatow to Foochow

I was thinking if there is a need, we can always march forces back to hold them in '44/45. But in the meantime, free up all these static troops to move around? What do you guys do?

Thanks in advance for sharing!

You are talking about leaving 10 bases ungarrisoned , that means daily 10 VP lost or 3650 Yearly or 14600 in 4 years. You choose :)

On a more serious answer , yes you need to garrison them. There is plenty of colloborationist Chinese units you can use for the small garrisons and for the larger ones you can bring Garrison units from Manchuria

Thanks! Did not realise there are daily VP losses for going under garrison. I actually went back to read up the manual on the VP section and still not see them.

They are even cited in the operations report each turn

I think supply stops flowing through the bases once partisans attack too, so it can stuff up supply movement while you lose VPs.
I’ve come up with China and Manchukuo garrison plans and posted them somewhere in my AAR you could use as a guide.
No idea what pages though...
Currently playing my first PBEM, no house rules Scenario 1 as IJ.

Partisan effects were altered in early patches, hence you won't read their current impact in the manual. You have to look at the patch notes.

Your game with Manchurian units joining China is significantly different, at least as far as China goes. I have a current garrison plan, but wanted to free up more IJA units for mobile duties.
