list

Post by falco148 »

Someone in a post awhile back suggested a 'black list' of players who just abandon MP games. This has been annoying me for a long time. If your going to play an MP and its looking grim for the side your playing, surrender OR play till the bitter end. DONT make people wait for weeks on on end.

Anyway heres some douches who have abandoned games on me:

I'd be careful calling-out people like this. I dislike ghosting too, but afterall, you never know what really happened. Maybe IRL came to action. And lack of proper in-game communication system doesn't help either.

Listing people that ghosted you is fine. I will avoid these players and one of them ghosted me as well. Calling people names is not fine as you say they may have had reasons. Better to keep things civil which is in short supply these days.

No, the shame is on those who make others wait for weeks to play their turn. As I said earlier, if a game is not going well for you then surrender.
This is not rocket-science. If there are real life issues preventing someone playing, then contact your opponent via the Matrix site. Most, if not
all people who play SC multi-player would be Matrix members I would say.

I can certainly understand the frustration, but I also agree we should keep things civil. There could be any number of reasons why a player wasn't able to respond, from justified to unjustified. To be safe, let's avoid threads like this in the future if possible.

Just asking kindly here, thanks,
Hubert

Thread is fine if just reporting facts that player X failed to finish a game. That's helpful information.

How do you know one of these people hasn't had a personal catastrophe and he is calling them a "douche bag". Its a game get a grip.

I agree with Dorky8

A few months ago I was playing a PBEM game and suddenly my opponent stopped playing their turns.

I assumed he had ghosted me. Recently I had a PM of him apologising for not playing his turns, it turns out he had caught C19 and had been in a bad way with it and had only recently recovered enough to start playing again.

So as frustrating as it is to be ghosted, we really don't know what might have happened to our opponent/s especially in todays world.

I don't like being ghosted...it's happened to me a few times and is annoying to say the least....but to head a title of a thread with the term 'douche bag' is juvenile.

Sad to see the OP needed to bump up this unfortunate and distasteful thread.

Agree the thread title is distasteful but I like the idea of a Ghost list.

Unless someone is totally immobilized through sickness, could they not write a quick pm or a post on the forum telling their opponent
what has happened? Seems to me this is not such a difficult thing to do.

Yeah, same here. If a moderator could just edit the thread title to 'Ghost Opponent List' that would be great.

If I get ghosted, and I have, chalk it up as a win. There's an ELO thread, where you'll meet the more competitve crowd. There's plenty of folks looking for a game.

You've never stood in another man's shoes
Or saw things through his eyes
Or stood and watched with helpless hands
While the heart inside you dies.
So help your brother along the way
No matter where he starts.
For the same God that made you,
Made him too,
these men with broken hearts.

Yeah that would be incredibly tacky to get mad at somebody for abandoning a game due to a real life emergency. But absent the person being incapacitated themselves, no emergency would prevent them from telling their opponent they won't be able to continue. I've lost both of my parents in the last 5 years w/lots of hospital time and I managed to let opponents, coworkers, friends, etc. know when I was unavailable.

a) Sometimes real life comes in between, and it is a game, not a job, a fiancee or a family obligation.

b) Most ghosting is probably because people are loosing, so they loose motivation. Do as Rambo suggests: chalk it up as a win.

c) I am not gonna name people, but a few years ago I was ghosted by one player complaining about ghosting on the forums. After it was clear that he was gonna loose. Food for thought.
