[Logged] Problems with Ka-27M

Post by kritter »

So I had built a scenario using the Ka-27M for an ASW operation. However I could not get the helo to engage.
Looks like a weapon problem even when I set the sub to auto detect.

Just played around with it.

If you bring the sub to about 300 meters in depth, just below the layer, the helo launches the torp. Anything below that and it won't fire.

I also noted that, other than auto-detect, there is no detection for the sub. Within a few minutes of the sonobouy detection, the torp. was launched. So the lack of solid detection by a platform sensor might be the cause of the DLZ message.

I am still a little unsure of how auto-detect impacts attacking with sensor driven engagements. My playing around with seems to show that even with autodetect on, you still need a sensor to get a fix on a mobile unit to engage it. Not sure if that's the reason for the DLZ message or if the really short-range torpedo can't get to a very deep sub.

Sorry for not really having a solid answer. Just what I see.

If I turn on the sonars, the dipping sonar can locate it. But still there is a DLZ problem. I tried other KA's
using torpedos and they will not fire either. However if i equip them with depth charges the helo will fire.

As I stated, its the depth issue. I think it gets hidden in the auto-detect setting, but if you raise the sub to 300, the torpedo fires.

I watched more closely this time. I raised the sub from 1700 ft to 300 ft. It took several minutes. As soon as the sub hit 300, the helo fired.

Yes there is something wrong here as the sonar can pinpoint it, and the torpedos should be able to fire under 300ft.
It will be nice to see what the devs say.

It actually works as expected. The problem is the torpedo itself.
This torpedo's low autonomy makes it impossible for it to reach a deep target.
The impact prediction will therefore output a terminal course above the target, hence the DLZ error.
If the contact is auto-detected, it will compute a valid impact solution (with a dogleg) for a sub above -700ft

In short, you should use a more contemporary torpedo to blast this sub.

I think you are correct I have noticed this problem with the TU-142MZ. However it used to be very effective with
torpedoes. Now I notice they will only fire rarely at the target. If I use depth charges there is no DLZ problem.
It looks like a change in the DLZ calc somewhere along the line.

Ah it might not sound obvious yet, but I am a recent addition to the dev team, so it was my conclusion on this matter.

The solution I came up with is by giving away more information in the manual targeting menu, displaying DLZ distance and altitude deltas (when it applies). Hopefully, this will make things clearer on why the target can't be reached.

I get that but it seems as though things have changed. Even if I make the sub auto detectable it still has trouble.
