Branching model lines

so i come to a problem where i want to re gun my medium tanks to a gun more suited to punching holes in enemy tanks and add some armor, but i DONT want it to take over the line of the tanks it was built form as i still intend for them to be the main tank of the army, it would be nice that a option to Fork a vehicle branch instead of itterate or make intirely new one be added to the game, this would also be especaly usefull for aircraft such as makeing fighter bomber, and attacker versions of existing fighter aircraft.

I'd like to second this. It would be very nice to be able to design specialized variants of vehicles.
