Allow AI more time Option

Post by solops »

Is there a way to turn off the "Allow AI more time" in mid game? It is making the turns so long (15-20 minutes) that I cannot play any more.

And, for the record I am using an i7-10750H with 16 gigs DDR4 RAM and an Nvidea RTX 2060 running under Win-10. Also, this is not a Steam installation. I bought direct from Matrix.

i9900KS, msi 3090 ventus OC, 32 ballistic ddr4 ram, always play on biggest map (getting close to 30-35 minutes turns now around turn 80), wish your hardware would make it go a bit faster. (in the end it both happens with the AI option togged on or off)

my tip for you, would be to play another game on the side, i play civ 6 or gladius on the side, and when i hear the sound that the turn is done i pull the shadow empire window back into my main gaming screen and do the turn, then just minimize it again while it's processing, would not be possible to play otherwise unless im playing another game on the side.

@Solops, Jorgas,

Could you send a game save file illustrating the long wait to vic@vrdesigns.net with a link to this thread.

I'll take a look if I can still speed up things.

And the idea of a switch to turn it off aint bad.

Best wishes,
Vic

Sent two.

I am on a medium map. And I read a book while waiting.

I have observed that over the last 5 turns processing time has decreased. It is down to about 10 minutes now from a peak of close to 20 minutes. I think the AI is waging war somewhere and the conflict is winding down.

Hi gus,

Thanks for the save files.

I uploaded v106-beta1b

Please give it a try. Switch off slow AI in Prefs and see if you are getting some improvements.

Best wishes,

If you could run the same save on your computer with AI option off? that would be much appreciated as a benchmark on your system?

32 min pre v106-beta1b
22 min v106-beta1 slow ai
...min v106-beta1 fast ai

Thanks Jorgas,

Speedwise i succeeded in bringing it back to a reasonable time for a game with very many units and regimes on a big planet.

Not great, but not half an hour either.

Much appreciated you took the time to benchmark!

In my eyes, a 25-35% speed calculation increase is amazing, :)

Dramatic improvement! Especially when I switch off the longer AI time. I just don't know what I am giving up in terms of AI capability.

Just curious, gents, as to the tradeoff. How much does less time handicap the AI?

Cheers,

The extra time is mostly used to try to make better combat/tactical moves at the lowest level of unit shuffling. It does not touch the economic or strategic algorithms.
