Allow a different name of an Air unit when its role is changed in new design

Post by Daza99 »

Say you have a Light plane called Eagle and its a recon plane and to create a new plane based on its design and change the role to a transport, this new unit gets automatically named Eagle II. If you rename this to say Transport Alpha the earlier design that is still in service as a recon plane also gets renamed to Transport Alpha.

It would be nice if you could rename an Air Unit and the new name will not carry over in earlier designs or instead the game notes the role has changed and wont rename the earlier design, if the role is the same then it updates the earlier design models too.

This would allow us to name models in way we can immediate know its role. We could even use abbrevs after the name to denote payload differences etc.

I mean, they are still both the same airplane design at their core, so it kinda makes sense that they would have the same name. They have the same structural design score, so it's more like "Eagle" and "Eagle (Transport variant)".
The same applies to tanks that were originally howitzers, but then later changed over to armor piercing, etc.

There's something to be said about just letting players rename individual models in general, instead of only letting them rename model serieses though.
