1944.....

Post by The Land »

Anyone up for a PBEM game of the 1944 scenario? I thought it might be fun to do, perhaps with an AAR. Stronger player takes the Germans (and I'm not a strong player)... if Germany lasts beyond its historical date, then it's a moral win for the German player. If Germany takes Moscow and London, that would be truly impressive.

If anyone is interested let me know! I'm often not the speediest player, but then it's a short campaign.

(edited as saying "multiplayer match" when I meant "PBEM" was evidently confusing people..)

I am interested.

No I meant regular PBEM. 4 players might be... interesting....

After posting this I realise the reason I thought my other PBEM games were going slowly was because the server stopped sending me new turn updates, not because the other player is going slowly. So despite continuing to think it's a cool idea I probably can't fit this in for a few weeks.

So I ended up playing this against Schnetzler, who has already beaten me in the regular 1939 scenario (fairly decisively ;) )

I think it's fair to say the scenario is even less balanced than I thought it would be...

The interest has always been in balancing the '39 scenario.

Some of the other scenarios could be fun but they dont seem balanced.

I think it's probably impossible to have a balanced June 1944 scenario, given the historical position. That said, even compared to history it's too easy on the Allies.
*In the Normandy invasion the Allies have enough bombers and amphibs that it is probably impossible for the Germans to even slow down the Allies in June 1944
*The Allies have 3 heavily-upgraded strategic bomber wings, which a human player will use ahistorically to devastate the supply of whole areas of the front and prevent the Germans from mounting an effective defence
*The Russians have so many MPPs that by the Autumn of 1944 they will almost inevitably run out of units to build.

If you go on a history basis most of the scenarios will not be balanced.

Any scenario can be made to be balanced.

My interest would be more in the '40, '41,'42 games.
