Upgrading a unit into the SAME size?

Post by Sieppo »

I want to upgrade the equipment of an unit. Now I seem only to be able to upgrade a unit into a larger size on the field. In my SQH I seem to be able to upgrade only the equipment. Is there no way to upgrade a units equipment on the field and keep it as a same size unit?

IIRC, downgrade allows you to change to another unit of the same size. However those links have to be manually worked into the Orders of Battle, so sometimes they break.

If that happens try to go over a simple formation like "just Infantry" as a intermediate step - that usually allows you to reform in any direction.

Depending on what you mean by upgrade (change the OOB?) you might not have the right OOB's researched. The acutal tanks/infantry/etc in the unit are upgraded separately from the OOB.

If you want to upgrade the model's equipment, you need to select the Model first then click Upgrade instead of using the OHQ's admin panel. For non-infantry models, you can only Replace instead. You will need enough logistical points to upgrade/replace them all, otherwise only some of them will get affected.

Select the model from where? I can only get model info and the Unit Admin panel only gives me a choice to upgrade into a larger unit.

I need to upgrade multiple machine gun units WITH OBSOLETE EQUIPMENT to have the NEWEST EQUIPMENT. And not change the size. They are on the front and need new stuff delivered to them, NOTHING ELSE. I have around 6 designs of the same infantry/MG units with evolving equiment.

Does not seem like there is any to do this than disband the unit and then upgrade the design in the SHQ which works fine.

To make my point even easier/clearer.

500 machine gun men reside on point "A" with equipment of design "1".

Is there a way to change the equipment (armor, gun) into design "6", with not having them change the amount of soldiers OR that position "A"?

Seems like a major glitch if there is no way to just give new equipment to troops.

Select one of your units from the map, then select one of your units from the bottom of the screen (where it says your number of troopers like 800x Soldiers).

I need to continue my rant here just a bit more [:D].

I want:

"Johnny here is your new gun and armor"

I don't want:

"Johnny you have been fighting great for years with you pea shooter but we just cannot give you the latest equipment. For that we would need to disband your whole unit and leave a gap in the line. Then you would need to travel to the capital to be outfitted with the latest equipment. Then we would ship you back to the front and form your unit anew, with all the perks etc lost."

I hope there is a way to do this with the former.

Keep in mind vehicles cannot be upgraded, only replaced. This essentially means that you're building a new vehicle, but putting the old (and hopefully experienced) crew in it. The old vehicle will be moved to the SHQ.

I tried to do this briefly before ending the turn, it just did not give any options into what to replace? Going to look again next turn once it proceses.

Ah, that is "changing mode design". For infantry, you can use the plain old Upgrade Mechanic.
For non-infantry gear it becomes a mater of Model Quality, Quality preference of units and "Repalce gear" action.

1. Pick a Unit of that Formation
2. Click on a MG subunit of the Formation
3. Hit "Mass Upgrade"
4. Set Scope to "all units under same OHQ" or the SHQ variant, as appropirate
5. Select the Target model
6. Select how many you want to upgrade
7. Actuall limit is defined by IP, Metal and Logistics to the units and can be lower then what you can select. Multipler itterations may be required.

Okay, the replacement process is a lot more complicated (when in the end, the result is the same).

If you got a Experienced unit with the Old gear and a freshly raised unit with the new Gear in the SHQ together, you can use replacement to swap their gear. You can then scrap the old gear with the new Subunits or keep it around as a reserve.

Getting them into the SHQ:
1. Set the old model to be lower Quality then the new one (Low and Regular for example)
2. Order the Units that have this Equipment to only "tollerate" Low quality Models
3. Build a first unit of replacements. As they are delivered out, the old ones will be moved to the SHQ. You can do the replacement there.
