Do you have the game setup as H2H? It would be great if you could post a screenshot of your opening screen....GP

H2H is head to head on the same computer. (I believe)

That's if you want to play both sides, I think a fair number of folks like that to try out new gambits and strategies. Or it allows "hot seating" on the same computer if your playing against a household member or a closeby opponent.

The Japanese side is up first. I've never selected that way so I'm not the expert.

Welcome back, BTW,

Read the setting: It says "Allied-Computer"(AI) - meaning you are playing as Japan. H2H is called "Head to Head" on the dial. Try selecting "Japanese-Computer".

It's a huge game and many of the settings/labels are a bit vague so don't be afraid to experiment. If you already have done a lot of work just save in a new slot before you try something you are not familiar with.

Yea just found out from the manual, that does the trick. Its crazy that they would make it like that as it will put most of a new community for a loss. You would naturally select "Allies" thinking that your selecting the correct side and to find out that iys doing the opposite.[:-][:-][:-]

The top image is the selection screen from the game you were successfully able to play 10 years ago.

The bottom image is from AE.

Perhaps the problem isn't the design? [;)]

I thought of one of the situations that is somewhat confusing. When loading troops on a Transport or Amphibious TF you have at the bottom of the screen the hypertexts "Load Troops Only" and "Turn Off Do Not Load Fuel". The first thing to get your head around is that these are not settings that tell you what is already in place but commands you give.

The first one toggles to something like "Load Supply Allowed" so you can figure out that you have to hit that one if you want supply to load into space available after the troops. The second one is a double negative, turning off the "Not" so that fuel can be loaded. It toggles to something like "Do Not Load Fuel" which you can guess means you should hit that if you want to avoid loading fuel in the cargo space with the troops.

And just to keep things complicated, if the ships is an xAK with a dedicated tank for fuel storage (Liberty ships have one for 500 fuel) it will ignore the "Do Not Load Fuel" anyway. For that reason I never use these types of xAKs to haul troops. Which reminds me - Air units are "Troops" too - the command to load an Air Unit on a ship other than a carrier is "Load Troops". Lots of new players confused by this.

Yeah, I took the word idiot to mean yourself when you posted it, but by not specifying that you left it open to other interpretations. And once someone think they have been insulted the flame wars start, whether an insult was intended or not. We all have to be careful in use of pejorative terms to make sure the communication is clear.
