Question regarding DW2

Post by Sild »

Hey!

Just watched the DW2 reveal stream on twitch and i wanted to say first that i quite liked what i saw!

During the stream, Erik mentioned that there's a whole list of features that DW2 has, compared to DW or that it does better, so i looked for it, read through it and a bit about the playable species on release had me thinking about something that i felt could have been done better in DW, more enjoyable, and that is playing the insectoids as an enslaving warmongering species.. basically lore freindly playstyle, right? Well, to be honest, while it sounded nice, actually playing that was kinda'of a pain because - and i might be remembering wrong - you couldn't grow your colonies properly, the enslaved ones, so you eventually economically lagged behind empires that absorbed populations properly.

So, i guess, what i'm asking is if there are improvements, or differences in how one might play such an empire, successfully and competitively, especially ones as hated as the insectoids without addopting a "standard", "meta" playstile. Thanks and keep up the good work!

Let me answer this in two ways. First, the Boskara were the last playable faction added, so they are a bit behind the others in terms of being fully tested at this point. Second, one of the main goals of focusing on seven playable factions is to make sure that each has a fully viable playstyle in terms of the game balance and options and that they can compete well with the other factions. I expect therefore that playing the Boskara in DW2 will be more viable both in a lore-friendly way and in other out of the box ways, but until we finish fully testing them I can't speak in more detail to that yet. We have a lot of testing and balancing still to do, especially with the faction events and faction victory conditions.

Regards,

- Erik

I'm wondering who the new threat to the galaxy will be or are you going to rehash the shaktari? Or is all that for a later expansion ala the way you developed the first game?

That is definitely a question I will not be answering for a long time. [;)]

So later expansion it is! [:'(]

No worries as long as the launch races have enough unique playability vs the others then I will be happy modding the boskara into the galactic insectoid menace I did in DWU if they fall a bit short.

Not sure.

"new Storyline which calls back to the original Distant Worlds, but with new previously unseen threats in each era of the game and more for each faction to find and explore about the lore of the Ancient era of the galaxy and the specific role of their ancestors as that history unfolded, leading to the cataclysm that destroyed the Ancient era, brought on the Age of Shadows and eventually the current era, where planetary civilizations are venturing back to the stars again."
It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly, than to live somebody else's life with perfection.
