Post by jkgarner »

Where can I find a listing of the WayPoint types...

e.g. when manually plotted in the GUI it isset to
TypeOf = 'ManualPlottedCourseWaypoint'

Thanks for the response KnightHawk75,

This is an interesting list.

There is PathfindingPoint. This implies a path-finding algorithm is used... is it air? land? or sea? or all? It is callable from Lua (probably not)

The various StationStart are pretty obvious, and no doubt generated by the system when setting up patrol missions.

Assemble, Formate, Marshal, and LandingMarshal are also interesting... as they imply some complexity in execution, perhaps gathering forces and then launching the attack proper. Are these air? Land? or Sea? r all?

Is there documentation that describes each of these? (Yeah give an inch, and I want more)

No docs, that was from trial and investigating the course fields over time, and yesterday just snooping for the full list for you, some of which I'd not actually come across in the wild at least in my Lua travels so to speak. I don't think we can generally set the type in Lua(this may have changed since last time I was trying it some time ago), you can definitely tweak existing entries of most the types though.

By tweak i mean you can erase them, or change the lat\lon for them, on the erase sometimes it's only temporary though for special things like for instance the path-finder ones. Which if you do just ends up re-triggering the pathfinder a few second later to waste cpu cycles recalculating again, but for instance I have hard over-ridden path-finding at times in my personal unittranporter (adds x amount of speed to any unit and other stuff) by every second or 5 wiping all pathfinding course entries if needed to help make certain things follow the pathing I actually laid out\generated and want followed regardless of terrain and not the ones (usually like 99 additional) it chooses to add in addition to my own, that realistic or in some cases not, I do not want it doing. "if I tell some troops to go though the forest.. go though the forest damn it, I know it's supposedly slower, but it's what I want in this case." lol

The pathfindingpoint far as I've seen applies to land and sea, I don't ever recall seeing it turn up on air assets, but i'd also say just cause i can't recall seeing it may not mean it can't happen.

Some of the others obviously relate to different missions as you mentioned and what gets generated with those pre or post launch, etc but I do not have lots of details for you there other then from time to time I played with detecting the entries and messing with the related lat\lons for the entries once they got generated by the system to shift paths of system generated paths\waypoints, but I've not done that enough to say for instance which one of those always applied to what exact mission types. Probably gonna have to experiment.
