Night naval air attack

Post by AmiralLaurent »

If you change one of your bomber units to night flying, naval attack is still possible.

But I never saw any plane attack an enemy ship at night (other than the occasionnal hit in port). Even ships unloading at the same hex and being there for days (at PM for example).

Against mighty CAP, night attacks are the weapon of the poor. And they were used by both sides. But not in UV in my own experience.

Has anybody seen a plane attack a TF at night before ?

Actually, most WWII attacks like that were more naval search missions with bombs, attacking ships seen when it was possible. But they were also night missions flown in squadron strength to attack an enemy TF.

See this thread
It talks about the same topic and should be helpful.

I have two squadrons of P-70s and have yet to see them attack anything. The pilots are getting a lot of rest. I think they are sleeping at night.:(

Thanks, Fullmoon,

this thread was exactly what I was looking for : the proof that naval air attack are possible in UV (and how to have a chance to launch one).

The trick to attack the port that you want to attack is a good advice. Will try this as soon as possible... as soon as I have airmen with enough experience.

I have been using my Mavis and Emily on night naval attack (1000ft) from two different bases. Nearly each night 8-12 fly from each base (Rabaul and Kevieng) and hit USN ships in Gili Gili, Buna, and Lae. They are getting about 8 torpedo hits a night. I only started doing it in Oct 1943. My pilots have excellent experience after flying naval search for the whole war to date.

I haven't seen an attack made against a TF in open sea only at my friendly bases that are getting invaded. I have a sub at each base. I had them set to night attack for a few turns with no sorties. Then all of a sudden they flew five mission in seven days. Their morale didn't go down much after the attacks. I still have them on night missions and haven't taken them off for morale or fatigue.

I think I will be using it in every game when one of my bases is being invaded regardless of experience or side or year. But I won't try for open sea attacks.
I'm a hazard to myself.

Want. Take. Have.
