Correct/historical date format

Post by Templer_12 »

Since the fights take place exclusively on European/Asian territory, I would like to see the local, correct, historical date format in the game (also in the predecessors): June 22nd 1941 becomes 22. Juni 1941

Maybe an option/checkbox in the game?

I am in the UK and also use the format D/M/Y rather than the US version but it is somewhat eurocentric to describe it as "correct".
The game may be set in Europe but it does not follow the date should be in a European format.

By that logic as the fighting is predominantly in the Soviet Union the game should be produced in Russian😉

Different.Yes. Correct.No.

Interesting, I had already thought similar. I wouldn't say one date or the other is correct. It's not like Americans are fighting in France and therefore all use a French date format or speak French. [8|]

But of course I would also prefer 22. June 1941.

Edit: "Of course" because I am from Germany too.

It would be fantastic if there will be an option to switch the date format, so that all players could use their preferred format.

Next we'll be arguing over the use of "East" or whether the game should be called "The Great Patriotic War". Even that would be more meaningful discussion than this one. Seriously, I wish the developers would ignore this request entirely and focus on making the game play authentic rather than making sure it had all the authentic bits and pieces.

Since the game takes place mostly in Russia, we should make the default text be in Cyrillic script.

This it is not a thread of discussion, but actually the announcement of a wish.

Sidenote: it is certainly easier to include the option of a European date format than to translate the game into Russian, perhaps even Cyrillic.

In the future, we will submit our wishes to you in advance for approval.

The request appears trivial. I doubt in coding terms it is even close. Think of having to change all the date formats throughout the code and data, worse still would be a preference. Miss one instance and the rest of the game is using not only a different metric but in maths a different language. Multiple instance changes are always difficult and can easily introduce bugs. When we added city forts it took over a month to iron out the unintended bugs.

I am a developer myself, but I don‘t understand the metric issue. Usually you have an internal date format that is converted to an display format. It is more trivial than not, but possibly a busywork. Usually. But I don’t know the code, and I understand that there are english texts containing dates as text. I'm just wondering, but of course it's perfectly fine if you say it's too complicated, or risky in the case of WitE2. For myself, the date format is not all that important.

Thats the case for the displayed date, but remember this game has both written events and a the WITE-pedia, so it would mean changing those assuming they mention dates which is how I took the above comment.
