Heart Felt Thanks to the Team who Made WitE2

Post by Zemke »

As an old wargamer from the late 70s, who has watched and played many of Gary's titles for these many years, I just wanted to thank the team who made War in the East 2. I just opened the game and am thrilled and amazed with the interface and information available.

I vaguely understand the work involved in this project and it is not just an upgrade of WitE. As I look at my bookshelf next to my computer desk and see the many books on the Eastern Front, Seaton, Clark, Glantz, Ziemke, Bellamy, Stahel, and many others, I understand the complex nature this project must have been. I wanted a Simulation of the war in the east, not a game, not an even chance of "winning", but a simulation of the hard choices commanders have to make based on history. Thanks from the bottom of my heart for your efforts and time. I hope this project will be worth that effort and wish all of you the best. You are my Rock Stars!

Thank you. Also glad to see you have Bellamy on the shelf - he was my tutor at Staff College. He gave me a signed copy of his Knights in White Armour which I cherish.

Ok, after looking at where you are from, I am guessing not Leavenworth or Carlisle, (which are the US Army's Staff College and War College), but the British Staff College. I would love to have met Mr./Dr. Bellamy, (Not Sure which is appropriate for him) myself, along with several other authors on the subject at hand.

While I have many more hours on games other than hex-based war games, I keep returning to hex-based games because they are a more believable, a more reasonable and realistic simulation of warfare, compared to some of the more "fun, easy, and quick" games.

WitE2 simply has incorporated - in detail - the various factors that have an effect on military operations (production, weather, terrain, logistics, etc.), that combined with CPP and combat delay, has resulted in the finest turn-based hex depiction of WW2 land warfare that I have seen since starting playing such games in the mid-70s.

Quite impressive (despite the learning curve!).

Every once in a while I get a craving for hex based games, and Matrix is my best choice to fill this craving. WITE2 is currently the top on my list. Lock & Load Digital is 2nd though. Thanks to David Heath! [&o]

I agree, thanks everyone for getting this done. The wait was definitely worth it. Now I can only hope you all have something left in the tank to update Steel Panthers!
