Locked Theatre Box Units

Post by SheperdN7 »

Hey everyone, loving the game thus far and I have a quick question about locked units in the theatre boxes, apologies in advance if this has been asked/answered before but-

In regards to units that are "locked" in the theatre box, but scheduled to arrive On Map on a set date (Italian II Corps is an example of this, it being locked but scheduled to arrive on map on turn 42 I think) if I clear the arrival date via the highlighted option on the lower left of the unit screen, will the unit become "unlocked" when their former "arrival date" comes? Or will they be forever locked and I miss out on it due to me clearing the transfer? I noticed that when I cleared the II Italian Corps transfers, it was just a standard locked HQ in the theatre box.

not sure of the specific instance you mention but in general being locked is a different state to having a transfer date (& you clearing this so it can happen when you want).

some of the locks may be from the scenario design (& here a trip to the editor may help you), but some may be simply that a unit is locked into its theatre (or the map) on the actual turn it arrives there - this is hardwired into the game rules.

Hmmm so if a unit is scheduled to transfer it shouldn't matter if its locked then?

Sorry for lack of pictures to show the II Italian Corps, won't be on my PC for some time.

Basically what I am trying to say is that if you clear the transfers for the II Italian Corps, it will forever be locked in the Italy Theatre box not being able to move anywhere, because it is a locked unit there and the game restricts you moving these locked units (which is fair enough). Seems like a foolish move though to clear the transfers for it or any other locked unit as you are basically losing the ability to get it On Map at all.

I guess it is there for those players who maybe are putting a greater priority on other Fronts via the theatre boxes and want to gain VP's that way so want to ensure the Italians dont arrive in the East.

No, thats not quite what I meant. Some units are locked by the scenario designer (& the best way to check this is via the editor) for a range of reasons. The game design locks a unit on the turn it enters a theatre (& then unlocks it subsequently).

I've no idea which might be applying in this case, or if, possibly, its a bug affecting that particular unit

I think if the unit is locked, it will retain the lock until it is transferred to the map. If you remove their transfer orders than yes I think they will remain locked.

Thanks Joel, I had a strong feeling that was the case anyways.

I checked out the editor Loki, and you are right I found a couple different solutions. Thank you both.

Locking in a TB, other than The Reserve TB, is not a problem if the unit will go to another TB or come to the Map. The Locking of II Italian Corps just keeps you from grabbing it early.

I would minimize disturbing the movement of units between the TBs and the Map. You may Unbalance your TBs. In many cases units will transfer out when another units transfers in about the same time. In StB and VtB I have unlocked some units that might have remained in that TB for the rest of the war just for a little variety.
