Recon Priorities in Air Doctrine

Post by Bamilus »

Would be nice to have recon target priorities as an option in air doctrines like we have for bomb cities and ground attack.

Currently they follow the Ground Attack or City Bombing depending on whether you have STRATEGIC or TACTICAL recon choices selected. This keeps them in tune with how the bombing missions will be focusing on.

Something I have just learned while trying to solve my recon woes is this:

"If you select ‘Unit’ as your target, the missions will focus on raising the information about already known formations. ‘Interdict’ will focus on uncovering units that may be in apparently vacant hexes."

So you have to select 'interdict' (a term that seems to me completely unrelated to the function it provides in this instance) if its unknown units you're looking to uncover.

squatter - think of Recon target priorities as discovering targets for your bombers to bomb. Units is getting more information on the units you already know about and those locations. Now recon also discovers things on its flight path to and from the target hex so it COULD find more targets that way. Interdiction, on the other hand, is discovering areas where there are chokepoints for bombing to hinder enemy movement and supply so you are searching a wider area and you discover enemy units as you do. It is a fine line between the two missions that often over lap and gets sidetracked.

Understood and thanks Carlkay.

It's not a big thing, but I'm just saying this is another small example of the GUI really not helping the player. 'Interdiction' in this instance doesn't tell the player anything useful about what selecting this option does. I dare say that most players wont have a clue what 'interdiction' recon means until they find the appropriate paragraph in the manual. If the GUI however simply said 'search unknown units' or something similar, players could grasp what the option is straight off the bat.

Thanks, i didn't know that. My suggestion still stands as I often would rather have recon choose different targets by default but Im assuming their coding relies on this for AI assist, so might be impossible or very hard to implement my suggestion.
