Security Division Usage / Stats?

Post by msf567 »

Hi all, what is the use case for the security divisions in this game?

From what I can understand, theyre ment to be kept in the garrison TB's as that's what theyre best used for.

But where/how can I see that strength expressed in their loadout stats?

I see the divisions have a majority of these "Security" sqauds, and that those are typed as "security squad", but what does that *mean*?

For that matter, what do any of them mean? I can't find adaquite descriptions of element types in the manual.

It seems rather important to see how a "security squad" is actually different than a infantry one.

The SECURITY divisions and other security units are meant for exactly that: Security. In WitE1 any security unit counted double as a garrison unit - I really don't know if that holds over into the Soviet Garrison TB or not. But they are units with light weapons meant to control population and neither trained nor equipped for any type of combat other than with partisans and the normal folk.

I could be making this up but I thought security elements had improved recon. Regardless, you only have the security divisions for a few turns so theyre best used for screening enemies in pockets, fighting very weak NKVD units, and/or taking territory. To Carlkays point, in this game (versus the first) theyre basically just weak infantry units until they get sent to the Soviet Garrison TB.

On turns 1 and 2 I like to use them to attack the Soviet border fortification units to save infantry division MPs and CPPs.

If it's a vital hex that you want to move through you'll want to do a deliberate attack; in a hasty attack, a security division that rolls poorly can fail to exceed the 10-to-1 CV threshold to eliminate combat delay.

After that I mostly use them for flipping hexes, especially in the Pripyat marshes. With enhanced TB control on, I might cancel transfers for 1 or 2 of them to keep flipping hexes so the infantry doesn't have to, and then manually transfer them to the Soviet Union garrison TB a few turns later when they're done. (It'll leave the garrison TB slightly undermanned, but honestly, so far I haven't seen any difference - I get partisan events every turn whether the garrison TB is at 80% or 130%.)

I've found motorized Security Divisions are a great for many missions.

They are very cost effective.
1 AP turns a security division into 3 regiments if you break it down.
For the cost of 3 AP's. You can get 9 Motorized regiments. Quite useful for recon, encirclement, flank and HQ protection. Routing already routed soviet formations. It cost 3 AP's to motorize an Infantry Division.

The amount of trucks to equip 3 divisions is about equal to 1 single Infantry Division.

Security Divisions are a gift not to be under-estimated.
Use them while you can.
