Pleae post All Map Comments Here

Post by siRkid »

I'll tell you what guys. I'll get this stuck and we can start collecting unofficial map comments. No promises. When we start working on the map again, I will make sure the map guy knows about this thread. DO NOT hijack this thread. Keep comments to the point and provide a ligiment refrence for your comments if you hvae one. I was there in 55 won't cut it.;)

As I post new screen shots, make comment in this thread so I have them all in one place. Example of a good, short and to the point comment.

1. The Buin Map Label is off and needs to be moved up to hex 64,92.

From the Alpha screen shots:

Large scale map
The roads/rail in the western side of Australia is all wrong, it doesn't even look like that today. The road on the western coast follows the coast, it does not go inland as it head north. You also have 2 green dots in the Vicinity of Adelaide, is the other Whyalla?

There was a rail line going north from Adelaide to Alice Springs, road from there to Katherine, then rail form Katherine to Darwin.

Darwin to Perth road follows the coast, except it cuts accross the bulge that is the Kimberlies (which you have correct) but you have it going inland from Broome, it stays on the coast to Port Headland.

Adelaide to Perth goes in at Perth, it doestn't head north in a loop like you have.

Source I'm an ex Australian Army Survey Officer :) I can get you maps of the era I think.

Smaller scale map of SE Asia.

No Ho Chi Minh trail in Vietnam :), coastal railway from Saigon to Hanoi. The rail line also linked into what is now Cambodia, but never completed the link to Thailand. (it was intended to but never finished). In what is now Cambodia the road network in the centre of the country should link to the port in the south.

Please advise if you want more information, I have access to the defence libraries that should have maps available, also the National Archives.

I'm on the Flashpoint Germany Beta so if you like send me the map BMP I can improve the interpretation.

Cheers

It might but this is all very unofficial. I was just trying to make it attractive to the developers as a one stop source to get some input. As various screen shots are posted people can make their comments here an keep their lengthy discussions in other threads. If it works, it works. If not, then......who knows.

Kid, maybe you should fix this one while you are waiting. :D

The map is not being constantly worked on. I think they will make one more effort at it sometime in the future. When that happens, I hope I can point them to this thread and make it easy to find the comments. However, if this thread becomes too long with too much chatter it will be counter productive and they most likely will not use it.

Kid, there is an unknown green dot (base) to the east of Darwin on the Northern Territory coastline. What is the name of that base?
I can chase up some reference material for WWII activites in northern Australia if you require them.

This map feedback message thread is great.

Now if only there were more maps, currently posted, to critique. Weren't some earlier maps removed from this forum?

Anyway, just for the (semi-official) record, and recollecting from memory of my previous feedback, here are three errors I recall from an earlier Philippines map:

--The Palawan city/base "Puerto Principessa" is incorrect. It should be: "Puerto Princesa."

--Tuguegarao (or just the label?) is too far south (about where Ilagan is). No longer having a map to refer to, I can't suggest better, precise map coordinates.

--Aparri is too far east (on the northeast tip of Luzon). It should be further west, at the mouth of the Cagayan River. Again, I can't offer better, precise map coordinates.

I second the motion that new alpha/beta maps be posted in this map feedback thread, else another sticky thread closed to user feedback (and directing the feedback to this thread).

Also, each posted alpha/beta map should be clearly labeled, so that as we post feedback, it is clear which map we are referring to.

It is on the list of request but I have been told it is a very low chance of getting done. I am a big supporter of this capability.
