Difficulty supplying amphib landings

Post by tbwheeler »

 I'm playing my first PacWar PBEM, and enjoying it immensely even as my opponent schools me. I'm the Allies and am trying to capture Guam. I"ve landed four divisions on the island, and control the air, yet seem unable to muster readiness above 35 for the LCUs, so they don't attack. How can I get those troops going?

Send another transport TF. Put more troops in it, small unit will do fine. Also load some supply in the same task force.
I guarantee you get the attack if they can unload unharmed.

Thanks. I've tried that -- started w/ a 2-division invasion force, have since sent more troops w/ some supplies and some standalone supply TFs. When the reinforcements landed, they engaged the sizable Japanese garrison but the troops already on the island remained sidelined -- it was a mismatch. And the supply TFs seem to do little good. I'm wondering now if I have too many troops clogging the island to adequately supply them.

You can never have more than 49% readiness, until the base is captured. This is the game rule*.

A nice tactic is to prepare landings like this:
TF50 - air combat mission
TF51 - naval bombardment or surface combat
TF52 - first troop transport
(remember to create a separate TF for each unit to be landed - You'll get more resolutions)
TF53 - small transport tf with supply
TF54 - another land unit
TF55 - supply
... repeat it for every unit ...

And remember the rule no 4934/34G:
"the more bombardment prior the landing the better"
;)

* ex. during attempts to capture Kagoshima under 3.0 PBEM (my troops were completely left alone, but always had 99% readiness, then after capturing the base - it remains isolated for over a year for no reason)
the more You play - the less You understand ... :p

One last point--are you remembering to activate the troops already on the island?
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?
