HQ Supply question.

Post by incbob »

According to the manual HQs give hexes within a 5 hex radius a minimum supply level of 1.

So what is going on in the picture below?
Is the HQ not giving supply because it is in a hex with only 1 supply? If I move the HQ back to the hex with 4 supply will it then be giving a supply of 1 within a 5 hex radius?

I asked this one of the first days. Apparently it was changed to give supply within movement range (I think), whereas the command radius should still be 5. Not sure why you're not getting supply here, however.

I'm going to try to explain this the best I can. Hopefully I'm making sense here.

HQ increase hex supply by 1 in the hex they occupy. Then supply in the hexes around it will change in value based on the mech movement rate from that hex given terrain type and weather. (Note: That hex would have had to get supply in the first place)

Your situation:
Move your HQ to the bottom supply which is level 3 and a road. The abstraction is that supply trucks are coming from logistics (ports, rail and roads) to deliver the goods. Placing the HQ on the road with supply level 3 hex would increase it's value by 1 (or it at least it should) Now that that hex is 4 supply level, since movement in the jungle would be 3, the hex beside it (north of Haiphong) should light up to 1 supply level. Click on your HQ, you can see how far it can move. Usually those hexes that didn't have a previous supply will also now have a value of 1.(Note: The ripple effect of numbers slightly changing are all around it, based off of how far the HQ can move)

So in this situation, moving your HQ to the front and placing it on a hex with supply level 1 would increase its value to 2, having no impact in extending supply since movement in the jungle costs 3.

Moving it back to the supply 4 hex would increase it to 5, but it is still too far away from the front to impact extending it because of the movement cost of the terrain and weather.

I hope this makes sense.

Quick edit: Place your hex on the road hex of supply 4, it's not in the pic (bottom right). That should work also.

There's some supply oddities that happen around Lao Cai/Haiphong if the Chinese move across the river turn 1. It blanks out a whole area that should be in supply, including hexes that previously were in supply on the opening turn. If you pull the units back into supply it starts flowing properly again. I'll try to get some screenshots today to illustrate it.

Weather will have an impact on movement and hence why the edge of the supply line shifts from time to time. You will need to factor that into your testing. Its interesting note the strategic importance of both ports Haiphong and Vinh. They would end the supply blues of China if captured in that area (There on rail).
