[bug added to list] Soviet Railyards in 1945

Post by bruceaboyd »

I am starting a Vistula to Berlin scenario, as the Soviets.

In the process of housekeeping, I discovered at least 15 major Soviet cities, such as Minsk and Pskovk, had 100% Railyard damage. Why would this be? If I hadn't caught it the Soviets would never have enough supplies. The Commander's report only shows railyards but not the damage. So you have to go through every city in the supply chain to find the damage, and start accelerated repairs for 1 AP point.

Explanation?

this sort of damage is set by the scenario designer.

remember the sheer destruction in the Western Soviet Union at this stage of the war.

The Soviets have sufficient supplies in the scenario but you do need to use all the options around HQ and NKPS placement and to ensure you focus on taking the bigger depots as you advance.

This is a bug that we just found out about yesterday and had a quick talk about it with Joel. It is affecting all scenarios that start after June 22 1941. We are working on fixing this issue.

We're not totally to the bottom of this one yet, but I can report the following:

Until about 3 weeks before release of the game in March, cities, with a capture date in the database before the start of a scenario, were given some random amount of damage every time a scenario was started. This damage was averaging somewhere below 50%. This was intended. Back in March something seems to have changed and suddenly all these cities were given 100% damage. This was not intended. This was only noticed in the past 2 days, so it indicates that it does not make the scenarios unplayable. It does cause some issues on the first few turns of a scenario until the damage starts to get repaired. VtoB can be played as there's enough freight in the depots at the start and there are enough railyards available on the map for rail movement. You do have an issue with the Kurland ports being damaged, but they will start to repair so I think the worst thing there is you can't ship your units out right away (but there is limited shipping anyway, IIRC. Some scenarios may be impacted more than others, but I think they are all playable. You may want to priority repair a few key large railyards/ports, but otherwise I don't think it has a huge impact given the starting stockpiles.

We've had some other pressing issues so we haven't fixed this yet, but we think we can get it back to where it was in March where we wanted it by the time we put out the .14 update, which doesn't have a hard ETA, and is probably a few weeks away. This does not impact any scenario that starts on 22 June 1941. Xhoel found this about 10 hours before you did. Sometimes it amazes us how long it takes for us or the community to notice these kinds of things, but there's a lot going on in this game. Unfortunately new bugs can get missed. We appreciate you reporting it.
