A Great Campaign alternative strategy

Post by rob89 »

Great Campaign, 1941-45.
I'm playing GER vs SOV AI sets at 120 : very challenging!

I early discovered that it's quite impossible to reach the usual targets and I opted for a different strategy: short lines (no deep strikes beyond the Pskov, Vitebsk, Kiev, Nikolaev line), great attention for logistic, maximisation of the loss-to-kill ratio, conservation of forces, both on ground and air.

In October, when the Rasputitza was coming, I stop and rest my armies on that line : Narva, Peipus, Pskov, straight down to Vitebsk, and then along the eastern banks of the Dnepsr (3-4 hexes), in order to have the main double-rail-line full working for the WH, with a big depot in every important town, up to Gomel, Chernikov and Kiev. Then go down on the west bank of the Dnepr to Cherkassy and from there a straight line south to Nikolaev. All in all only a 94 hexes frontline (about 1500 km) : 'Ludendorff Stellung'. All railway lines in the rear are full repaired and working.

On the other side of the coin, I have a very poor 480 VPs.

At the beginning of December, when heavy snow and blizzard start beating the Russland, my IDs are all in 3xforts, with mobile units in reserve and HQs in towns. And resting in west Russia, I saved at least two weeks of the worst weather for my Landser.

Casualties at the date : SOV 3,000k, GER 400k, with the SOV OOB that deploys 4.2 mn men on the frontline (5 mn overall).

The starting soviet winter offensive, so far (Christmas 1941), has only had a few minor breakthroughs, with heavy russian losses.

My big concern is related to oil, resources and supply. The industry, despite a good pool of men, weapons, AFVs and AC, continue to overproduce armaments, consuming resources, while supply stocks are decreasing... and very low...

What is my long term target? To survive, stopping the soviet steam roller... [;)]

I hate the HWM (525 by 1.1.42) sudden death... [:-]

Only a f... liar like Iosif Vissarionovič could declare a decisive victory, with a full German Army deployed in force from Narva to Vitebsk, Kiev and Nikolaev ... [:D]

I missed the HWM rule...

I'll restart ... [8|]
