Impact of Generals

Does anyone know how impactful Generals are in this game? I ask because I just lost the best Indian General, and now I only have ONE left.

I'm concerned that if I lose the other general, I will have a big disadvantage as the 'head of army' dude is abysmal.

Also is it possible to lose all your generals or will there always be someone to take over.

You will not "lose" due to no general. They do have an good impact on combat.

FYI there is always a "generic" general...though not sure of stats.
